Earlier this year Taste of Montclair filled The Manor with wonderful local cuisine, hungry patrons and generous donations to the tune of 30K supporting Montclair Rotary Club charities.
Over 50 vendors more than brought their A game, but it was their T game that won over guests. T for taste and lots of it. Here are some we have tried and tried again.
Its only right that long-time taste supporter and NJ's Founding Father of flavor, John Sauchelli's Jersey Barn Fire top the list with Black Garlic. Deep flavor with just enough heat to fire things up, this makes a great topper of just about anything from potatoes to macaroni & cheese, even ice-cream if you desire a creamy cool counter part to a zesty hot.
Red Velvet "kake" pops from Kimmy's Kakes were a hit. Sweet creamy kake wrapped in rich chocolate. These are beyond a treat, they are a sweet sensation. Kimmy's beautiful artfully designed kakes taste as great as they look. Same goes for cake pops & truffles. They come in many flavors but the red velvet raises the bar.
On the cooler side of sweet, we experienced blueberry basil sorbet from Gelotti, who not only Grand Opened in Montclair recently, but can be spotted at Yogi Berra Stadium at New Jersey Jackals home games.The fusion of sweet blueberry & basil is a perfect summertime..anytime treat.
May we also suggest Yogic Chai of Montclair for a cool concoction, not just your average iced coffee either. The masters of Nitro Cold Brew Coffee began serving this coffee-ful brew for over a year now as large global brands are bringing theirs to market this month. An authentic Nitro Cold Brew is creamy and cool and is a perfect daytime /nighttime brew. The even cooler thing about Yogic Chai is their coffee/ chai cycle which operates all over Montclair.
On to some spicy smoky flavor, another Taste of Montclair treat debuting for the first time this year was Two Men And An Appetite's General Tso Meatballs. The blend of heat & sweet is a taste you may not expect on a meatball, but must try.
We finish up this mini Taste of Montclair tour we have to share a treat that is near and dear Jane Yagoda's famouns Tomato soup with basil. A Gardener's Kitchen " connects my love for delicious healthy food, beautiful photography and the serenity of the garden" says Yagoda. This velvety smooth soup marked sharply with basil transcends seasons, yep we would eat it in August and would definitely #feelthebasil.
