While temps steamed up towns through out the state Lizzonade did their part to cool folks down. Their Coolcumber basil lemonade sounds so good, just looking at the picture is refreshing

Another beat the heat basil treat comes from Gelotti. Basil Blueberry ice cream is one of their 56 flavors of ice cream italian ice and gelato, that CBS named one of four Best Homemade Ice Cream in NJ.
Gelotti has two locations in Paterson and Caldwell and is opening soon in Montclair.
We also came across local chef Rachel Weston’s book New Jersey Fresh Four Seasons From Farm To Table. A must read for all NJ’s foodies who love the fresh we live and create with it. Recently she created a three layer ice cream terrine including glorious green basil ice cream, layered with peach and rhubarb. WE look forward to the next table this creation graces. Couldn't write about basil with out including a classic passable basil treat. Begining with a hearty, whole grain cracker topped with fresh basil, a dollop of Kim Osterhoudt's signature jam. Pictured here is Raspberry Margarita. Add some fresh cheese, mild like Fontil or strong like gorgonzola and there you have a basil fresh sweet and savory treat
