July 27, 2015~ Black Tie And Flip Flops: Montclair Restaurant Week kicks off September 19th and runs to September 27th 2015. The nine day event is the Rotary Club’s thank you to the restaurants, food crafters and businesses that support Taste of Montclair, the club’s annual March culinary event.
Restaurant Week kicks off with on September 19th, the same day the various business districts are hosting sidewalk sales. It is also the same day as Art in the Park in Anderson Park. “This is our chance to celebrate the community” said Taste of Montclair Chair John Lee. “People coming together to support one another for the benefit of all concerned is what Rotary is all about” added Montclair Rotary Club Membership Chair Sandra Soehngen.
During Restaurant Week, participants will offer prix fixe menus or other specials lunch and dinner to welcome new and past patrons. Early risers will even discover breakfast specials. Rotary club secretary Bob Schwartz added “The special prix-fixe, multi-course options offered by each participating restaurant encourages diners to many different and delicious eateries during the September promotional week.”
Club Treasurer Alicia Robinson and club board member Tomoyo Rezvani organized the Tricky Tray at Taste of Montclair 2015. “For restaurant week, we’re also encouraging non-food businesses to consider restaurant week specials” said Robinson. “They can be ‘end of season’ promotions, specials on services, or anything really” added Rezvani. Our goal is lift up and promote the businesses that have helped the Montclair Rotary Club’s charitable efforts.
“For Montclair Restaurant Week 2015, we tapped the team who made Taste of Montclair 2015 a hit to organize this season’s restaurant week.” said Rotary Club president Paul Metcalfe. “In one night last March the all-volunteer team raised over $31,000 for charity, so they were the perfect choice to make Montclair Restaurant Week a success. Restaurants gave their time, talent, and treasure to support us so we would like to support them.”
As everything we do is about charity, official participants are being asked to donate $50 to the Montclair Rotary Foundation. “100% of this donation will go to the charities supported by the club.” Robbie Furman added. Participants will receive posters and window decals showing their participation. “This token sum will help us keep track of which establishments are participating. Of course the club will be sharing details about participants across Facebook (TasteOfMontclair, MontclairRotaryClub) and twitter @TasteMontclair”
