While the tri state area can be considered the home of the best pizza pie in America It is only fitting then to claim Ah’ Pizz to be the home of the best authentic Neapolitan pizza in New Jersey. Montclair’s exclusive VPN ~Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana certified restaurant just opened in Denville and we couldn’t wait to get there.
The title of VPN –certified is one earned and only 4 pizzerias in NJ 70 nationally can claim it. It is the mark of Neapolitan pizzaioli ( pizza makers) meeting the highest standards of quality and craft. Flour and mozzarella imported from Italy are inspected to craft artisan pizzas cooked in an authentic wood fired stone oven.
I had a chance to sit with owner entrepreneur Mike La Morte while served a butternut squash smoked buffala mozzarella pancetta pizza that was excellent flavorful warm and smoky. Mike’s entrepreneurial skills blend beautifully with the culinary talent of Chef Greg Lampariello, formerly of Nutley’s Terrazza to bring not only the finest Neapolitan pizza but a menu of Italian specialties made fresh.
The atmosphere is warm and inviting with the open view of the wood fired stone oven, temperatures reaching over 900 degrees F. Perfect for cooking the hand kneaded dough less than 90 seconds. Ah’Pizz menu offers many pizza selections, daily specials salads, pasta entrees and Italian dishes that make your mouth water just reading it. La Morte also will be offering a wine selection of the best of local Cava Winery. Diners are invited to B.Y.O and will soon have the option to purchase direct to the table from New Jersey’s own Cava.
San Marzano tomatoes , extra virgin olive oil, and fresh mozzarella Fior di Latte (made from cow’s milk) made on premises daily or mozzarella di bufala (made from the milk of Italian water buffalo) combined with culinary excellence warm atmosphere and La Morte’s passion to give his customers the best dining experience possible will not only bring you to Ah’Pizz it will keep you coming back. Oh did we mention the Nutella pizza?
