When local Cheryl Burger and her sister had both had enough of their full time jobs, they decided to follow their passion; to run their own business and to bake. Finding the perfect space on Chester’s Main Street The Sweet Spot Bake Shoppe opened in 2010.
With no bakery in town, or neighboring town of Mendham they drew a lot of interest. What keeps customers coming in the door is , well many things, but first would be Cheryl’s freshly baked 5 ingredient cupcakes. Made every morning, no preservatives and perfectly portioned, keeping the price as sweet as the finished product.
Last summer, the banner went up as The Sweet Spot earned the title of winner of the Food Network’s popular Cup Cake Wars. Local excitement spread like wildfire as folks watched weekly and celebrated with, you guessed it cupcakes.
Earlier this year some space became available adjacent to the cozy store front and Cheryl decided to open a class room/party room and can host up to 30 for decorating classes, mommy and me classes and themed parties.
There's much more than cupcakes in the display cases. Cookies and wonderful cakes neighbor the decadent flavor offerings, but what caught my eye was a shiny ceramic tray of cake truffles. Cheryl admits she found the recipe on cakecentral.com and offers them daily. They are a perfect melt in your mouth blend of cake and icing wrapped in chocolate. A dozen has found its way into my home a few times in the last month. I recommend the banana cake and red velvet.
Cheryl’s cake decorating skills are pure artwork.Local deal finder and purveyor of life, Sara Monica of Small Chick Big Deals recently celebrated her birthday with this beautiful cake from The Sweet Spot.
