TeamJersey2012 Getting The Job Done

The best way to start this post is to quote We Are Team Jersey’s Facebook page; “What started with one person and a social media post, has blossomed into an army of 2800! WE ARE ALL TEAM JERSEY!” When Shannon Ruvelas woke up the Day after Sandy hit, she spent the day helping neighbors in Jackson dig out from the mess. The next day she put a post on Facebook asking friends to volunteer, and the rest is history.

To date Team Jersey has helped over 100 families muck out the damage and rebuild the foundation of their homes. Kelly Hager, volunteer says “the primary goal is to get folks back in their home”. Volunteers come from far and near and anyone can hop aboard. Their Facebook page posts where the next project is and people can help with any project they are free for. There is a wait list of folks in need so volunteers are needed all the time.

Another way to help this wonderful organization is to hop on Amazon and donate items on the wish list. This is a super idea and allows folks from anywhere to lend a hand. Gift cards, home supplies, building needs all are on the list and it is updated regularly. Remember they run totally on donations, so anything is helping get families back home. Hager shared that 92% of all donations are going directly into the hands of the folks that are in need. With FEMA monies coming in slowly and insurance companies bound in “red tape”, Team Jersey is giving back fast. Just read some of the amazing stories on Facebook.

Please take a minute to see the great progress Team Jersey is making, consider donating in any way you can. Even with “houses still on top of cars”, they are leaving families with hope and leading them home.
