Mendham Helps~ And Keeps On Helping

During the weeks following Hurricane Sandy, the Brookside Fire Department became a shelter for folks who lost power. Many people came in for a hot meal, warm shower, to charge their cell phones and in some cases, live during the outage. Even more folks came to cook, clean, drop off supplies or just keep up with the local news. It became the best place to be in Mendham Township in a time of difficulty, from “better than a restaurant “ style meals to hot chocolate and tons of Halloween candy for the kids. As nearly all folks’ power was restored, this tireless group of volunteers, who manned the helm of the shelter, were not ready to close up shop. Mendham Helps was quickly organized and has created “100 in 100 hours” collections. Thanksgiving week 100 beds, including all bedding needs, were collected in 100 hours, organized and shipped to the Peoples Pantry Warehouse in Toms River. Folks were warm and snuggly that very evening. The second collection just finished including 100 5 gallon buckets filled with clean up needs as so many homes are in need of clean out. An organization and packing meeting is scheduled and supplies will be delivered. It is a tremendous outreach effort and we are looking for your help. The cameras may have left and the media coverage may have stopped, but folks are homeless, and still hurting. Shelters are full and help is needed. If you can help this group in anyway please reach out the following ways.
