General Store; When You’re Here, You’re Home

N. LAVALLETTE, NJ – It’s a trip back in time, to pre-super storm sandy, down the shore. It’s a breakfast spot, where the coffee is almost too good to be true, and everything on the menu starts with the foundation of “basic goodness”. It’s a place where you can hang out on a rainy day, grab a cup of coffee a classic board game or book, maybe a snack or two and hang out in a comfortable chair or around your grandmother’s kitchen table while the storm passes. It is a cozy little nightspot with weekly live music and great snacks. It is General Store and it is a gem.

Joe and Ashley Keegan grew up at the shore, love the ocean life and share a common passion for great tasting, real food. Both worked the New York City food scene and after a family matter that brought them back to the Jersey shore, they realized, that is where their hearts really were. Now they are sharing that passion with public in a great spot on Route 35 in North Lavallette. You can find them by their engaging messaging on both the white board on the front of the building and the sandwich board on 35.

Besides the welcoming home-like atmosphere, the love for all authentic things “down the shore” what’s most enticing is their Instagram page. A few scrolls is all it takes and what you see is a passion for service, locally sourced and preserving the beautiful environment they are surrounded by. Ashley's food photography talent, makes the feed even more appealing. The Keegans are passionate about serving fresh, locally sourced food and outstanding coffee. The bean of choice is No Six Depot. Found in the Berkshires, and rooting back to Buenos Aires combined with a love for cooking and music, blends magically for a flavorful rich cup. And after a tasting of their cold brew, iced coffee and favorite blend you will find all of your coffee needs readily and richly fulfilled.

While ordering at the counter the variety of "penny candy" and treats from a simpler time, reminisce of the five and dime, luncheonette days where a dime lasted all day. There is something for everyone. Its more than worth the trip. It’s a place you will visit more then twice, and count the days until you can return. It’s a page from the past, turned into a chapter in the present with deep commitment to a healthy, sustainable fresh future. Its General Store, but its so much more.

Grilling Greatness Marks Holiday Weekend

MENDHAM, NJ - As the fourth of July is upon us, state parks closed, beaches and highways over crowded, Kings of Mendham’s Grill and Chill event was the place to be, with no wait.

The sun was hot, but the grill was hotter. Special guest, Chef Jesse Jones, known for his French twist on southern cooking, presented a roasted pork panini beginning with fresh ciabatta, rubbed with
A L’Olivier, French extra virgin olive oil. Piacenti Tuscan pork loin and fresh grilled vegetables made up the between the bread. The finish combined Dalamatia Fig Spread blended with Dijon mustard, the perfect blend of sweet and heat.

Inside, Chatham’s Chef Terri McGovern, of Market to Table shared a fresh corn salad made with corn, tomatoes, red onions, jalapeno peppers, a touch of lime and finished with real smoked olive oil. A true summer side that can stand up to any grilled main dish and it was as flavorful as it was colorful.

Just outside the bakery section, Eileen Maher of Realish Food, plated a grilled peach with cream dessert finished with marcona almonds and A L’Olivier raspberry fruit vinegar. The flavors perfectly balanced and presented beautifully.

This amazing tasting tour was created by Atalanta Corporation a New Jersey based leader in quality specialty imported foods in conjunction with DeMedici Imports. For over 75 years Atalanta has grown with the needs of the customer, going public in 1971, establishing environmental stability and even recovering after Hurricane Sandy. Friends of Florham Celebrate The Jewel of FDU Florham Campus

From TAP into East Hanvover Florham Park
FLORHAM PARK, NJ – On Thursday, May 18, many will gather in Hennesy Hall, for a “Gilded Age Luncheon and Tea” hosted by the Friends of Florham. Founded in 1990, the mission of The Friends is to preserve and restore remarkable Hennesey Hall and to inform the community of the historical assets offered to the public .

Hennesy Hall, formerly known as Florham, was the centerpiece of the country estate of Florence Vanderbuilt Twombly and Hamilton Twombly. The couple purchased the 900 acre property and adjoining farmland. Seven years later, the over 100 room mansion was completed.

Ruth Twombly, daughter of Florence & Hamilton, passed away in 1954 and the estate was sold to Fairleigh Dickinson University, Florham- Madison Campus. In 1958 the first classes were held in where once stood sitting rooms and bedrooms for family and guests.

The many rooms, marble fireplaces, and paneled billards room remain intact and host classes as well as administrative offices. The sweeping staircase in the grand hall is completely restored and the formal gardens are maintained beautifully. Friends of Florham continue to restore this gem of the Florham-Madison campus of Fairleigh Dickinson, and they invite you to join them for a wonderful afternoon in support of the continued preservation of Hennesey Hall.

The Friends of Florham is comprised of nearly 100 members, 14 active board members, two emeritus members and eight advisory members along with eight FDU members. Informational seminars and events are held through out the year. The summer fundraiser is uniquely themed every year. This year’s timely theme, The Guilded Age, originally penned by Mark Twain, will be honored and celebrated on May 18, in Florham Park.

March 13, 2017 West Orange, NJ - 'Twas the night before winter storm Stella and all across the state, vendors, sponsors and the staff at the historic Manor did anxiously await. Its a Party and Everyone is Invited

February 18,2017 RedBank-- NJ Heading south on the Garden State Parkway on a Saturday night can only lead to something wonderful. Parking just a block from Count Basie Theatre on an unseasonably warm February evening, carried the excitement of the pending event and faint salty breeze from the Navesink. Decades Rewind was about to begin. I had no idea I was in for a night like this. The sound of Journey, Prince and Michael Jackson erased the last 27 years along with a powerful, moving performance by vocalist Coya Jones, who absolutely can sing "Whitney in Jersey". Just as the essence of Aquanet washed over me, everyone got out of their seats and danced to Gloria Gaynor, the Commodores and Donna Summer. The disco ball fired up and the iconic Studio 54 logo was everywhere. The more the music played, the more memories flashed across the screen and through my mind.

As the 60s era rolled out audience participation was full capacity, everyone was singing or dancing. The emotional imagery, the tributes to greats like Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and the Beatles had everyone on their feet. The footage from Viet Nam and Woodstock had our hearts on overdrive.

Truly a magical meld of music and imagery, evoking all kinds of emotion . A perfectly timed hiatus from the stress of the world of today as the musicians & vocalists brought us back to a world of yesterday. Bring your besties and get tickets for a venue near you, its a not to be missed night to remember. As creator Peter Gatti says, its not a show, its not a concert, it is a party.... and everyone is invited.

Ten Years Later ~ The Read For The Next Ten Years

"think of the misery I could have avoided if the scenario played out earlier! However, if I had a husband, 2.5 kids and a dog surrounded by a white picket fence like everyone else here, I would have been pissed off at all I would have missed out on. Myself"
Carla D'Agostino

We have all been there.
Standing at the door of your high school reunion, wishing an earthquake hit at that exact moment. Waking up slightly hung over when your mom is brighter than the morning sun. Dating your dream crush and finding out how less than fabulous they really are.Even enduring unfair treatment on the job because of your gender or not seeing true love right in front of your face. These are the days that fill up the years that make our lives.

Enter Carla D’Agastino,.
She is the unsung hero of small town, New Jersey. She navigates the ocean of irony like Captain Ahab. She is from a small town but works for the country’s biggest radio program. She is a loyal hard worker, but gets snickered at for wanting to move up and passed over for some non-talent with a big name and no real game. She wages every woman’s war of significance, when her natural gift is to see the talent in others. Her determination equaled that of Jumbo Elliot taking the line of scrimmage, and yet, could catch the eye of everyone in the room with the grace of Jackie O.

The clock is ticking.
While she wants to accomplish 10 years of life in 12 months, life hands her double the surprises.
Over brunch, at the kitchen table, in the control room, in a text message or even in the headlines, Carla catches her breath, takes action and beneath the surface of self-denial and fear, activates a heart of gold and an unstoppable spirit. She may hail from a small town, but she is a skyscraper of a woman, once she realizes all that she desires is just with in her reach.

Follow Carla’s story seeking the perfect job, the pursuit of real love and the journey of self discovery. Her story crosses generations. Author Lisa Marie Latino writes conversationally. It flows easy and is so visual, its like she is in the room with the reader, beckoning the turning of each page to the next destination. We look forward to the movie.
